A Message from Our Founder
Twenty-five years ago, my fast-growing church completely collapsed. One Sunday morning, I looked out and saw just 14 people. I felt like a total failure. I remember sitting in my car one night, tears streaming down my face, and shouting at God, ‘Am I invisible?’
In that darkness, God reminded me of a truth a friend once shared: there is treasure in darkness. Darkness hides, but it also reveals. It may hide the rose at our feet, but it reveals the stars in the sky.
That painful season hid my personal agenda—the desire to show what Ron Schubert could build. But it revealed God’s faithfulness, and it gave me a deep empathy for the unique pain that pastors of smaller churches carry every week. It was then that I began creating resources specifically for them.
AOCLI exists because I’ve been where you are. I know the struggle, and I want to provide practical, field-tested tools to help you thrive right where God has planted you. But that season of failure wasn’t the end of my story—it was the beginning of something bigger. Over the next three decades, I have the privilege of serving as Lead Pastor of LifePointe Church in Michigan, I’m the State Evangelism Director for the Church of God in Michigan, and now CEO of the Association of Church Leaders International.
What started as personal desperation became a mission to help leaders discover their God-given purpose and develop healthy ministry environments. I’ve learned that authentic ministry isn’t about building what looks impressive from the outside. It’s about understanding your unique calling and creating sustainable systems that honor both God’s vision and human limitations. Most ministry resources are built for churches with big budgets and large staffs—but that’s not the reality most of us live in. That’s why I became a Level 5 Certified Church Health Coach—not to add titles, but to gain the tools and authority to help organizations discover their authentic ministry DNA, regardless of their size or resources.
Together with my wife Robin, we share over 80 years of combined ministry experience. We’ve seen the highs and lows, the victories and the valleys. All these years of ministry experience helped me develop programs like The Resurgence Experience, Sports REC, The NEXT Discipleship Program, and others that have helped churches and leaders across six countries move from survival to significance.
This isn’t just a business. It’s a mission born from my own story, built to give you the practical tools and battle-tested strategies I wish I’d had. Let’s build something that lasts.
